Hard Fight for Kemp

Kemp Salmond faced his toughest opponent at the Shore Showdown MMA show last night at AUT. But he showed the true spirit of a fighter when he wouldn’t stop coming forward guns-a-blazing. Victor Kalolo of Shuriken showed a good game of  punches that connected often on Kemp, rocking him a few times. But despite getting hit, Kemp kept coming forward with swings of his own, even landing a few. For two rounds, the fight pace between the two was continuous stand up action, and the crowd were own their feet. At the end of the second round, the show medic examined Kemp’s right eye and decided that visibility was too impaired to continue. Kemp wanted to carry on, but the medic stopped it before the start of round 3. We were all were impressed with how much a chin and heart Kemp had in that fight. With those attributes and more strategic training, the “Animal” will be unstoppable. Kemp’s MMA record is now 2-1.

Ev Ting also had his first night as an MMA referee, and did very well in spite of the loud heckling from his own AMMA supporters. Thank you to all the supporters who showed up and shouted their heads off for Kemp: Ev, Gareth, Tane, Kavi, Matt, Todd, Nigel, Ben, Dave, Hamish, and Van. It was a fun night for the AMMA crowd. Some (**cough** H **cough**) say the bunch was just a bit too festive, and forewarns there to be some payback training when they return to the gym.
